Sheet music in PDF format is available for a selection of Sam’s songs here.

When not on the road Sam is available for private guitar lessons both at his home in Sheffield and further afield via Skype. In face-to-face lessons Sam teaches all abilities from ages 8 through to adult learners, whereas the Skype lesson format is best suited to intermediate and advanced players with some knowledge of basic fingerstyle playing technique.

Lessons can be tailored to the individual players’ needs and ability. Sam has helped beginners to take their first steps on the guitar and improvers to deepen their knowledge of fingerstyle playing. For more advanced players Sam can help students master their favourite acoustic folk guitar arrangements and / or come up with their own versions of traditional tunes and songs. For players looking to take graded exams – especially young players wanting to get a solid grounding in good technique – Sam teaches the ABRSM classical guitar syllabus to grade 8.

In addition Sam provides one-to-one mentoring sessions for songwriters, giving budding artists the opportunity to discuss and explore all aspects of the craft with a BBC Folk Award-winning professional songwriter. Songwriters come to Sam for help and advice in the form of creative and constructive feedback on their own writing, as well as for a fresh burst of inspiration drawn from exploring Sam’s own unique approach to and ideas on the subject.

Sam is also an experienced workshop and masterclass leader, recently having taught at Cambridge Folk Festival, Shrewsbury Folk Festival, Halsway Manor Guitar Weekend, and for BBC Introducing online.
